A firm built around the conversation, not the file.
There is no shortage of capable family lawyers in Sydney. What is harder to find is a firm that will sit with you for an hour, explain the law in words you actually use, and then tell you honestly whether the fight you are contemplating is worth having.
Our practice grew out of the courtroom. Our Senior Partner came to the firm from the bar — a former barrister at Trust Chambers with experience across criminal, family and commercial matters, and appearances at all levels of the NSW courts. That background shapes how we work: we prepare every matter as though it will be heard, which is precisely why most of them never are.
Around that, we have deliberately kept the team small. Family law is not volume work. It is somebody's children, somebody's home, and usually the worst year they have had. It deserves a solicitor who knows the file without opening it.
The firm practises principally in family and criminal law. The overlap between the two is not an accident — separation and safety concerns arrive together far more often than people expect, and having both capabilities in one office means nothing gets handed off at the worst possible moment.
What We Hold To
Four commitments you can hold us to on every family matter.
Honesty before optimism
We would rather tell you in the first meeting that an expectation is unrealistic than take your money for two years finding out. If a matter has a weakness, you will hear about it from us first — not from the other side.
Plain English, always
Interim orders, binding financial agreements, the just-and-equitable requirement — all of it can be explained in ordinary language, and all of it will be. You should never leave our office less clear than when you arrived.
The children come first, genuinely
The court asks what is in the best interests of the child, and so do we — including when that answer is inconvenient for the case. Winning a parenting matter at the cost of the children is not winning.
No surprises on the bill
A written costs estimate before we begin, fixed fees wherever the work allows, and a phone call before anything unexpected is incurred. Legal costs are stressful enough without being a mystery.
How A Matter Actually Runs
Most family matters follow the same four stages. Knowing them in advance removes a surprising amount of the anxiety.
We listen properly
A full consultation, not a fifteen-minute intake. We want the history, the finances, the children, and the thing you are most worried about — which is usually the thing that matters most.
You get a written picture
Your position, the realistic range of outcomes, the options available, and what each of them costs. In writing, so you can read it again when you are calmer.
We try to resolve it
Negotiation, correspondence, mediation and family dispute resolution. The overwhelming majority of matters end here — faster, cheaper and far less damaging than the alternative.
We formalise or we file
Where there is agreement, we lock it in with consent orders so it is binding and final. Where there is not, we file and run it — properly prepared, from day one.
